Sabre Fencing
Sabre is one of three weapons in fencing alongside Épée and Foil. In Sabre fencing, the target area includes everything above the waist. Touches are recorded electronically when the blade makes contact with the opponent’s jacket, mask or cuff. If touches light up simultaneously, the touch is awarded to the fencer who established priority by initiating the attack.
My Journey
I started fencing nine years ago at my home club in Stockholm. I quickly improved and entered my first competition the following year finishing in 6th place. My interest grew and lead to good results. In 2023, I became the National and Nordic Champion in Sabre. During the following season, I took my first step onto the international FIE circuit. Now the journey continues…

Expenses
Traveling
International FIE competitions generally span over weekends but often start already on weekdays. Fencers typically need to plan for at least two nights at a hotel. Competitions are held worldwide, with many located in Europe. To compete internationally, a fencer must have a license and pay a participation fee for each tournament.
Training
Many top-level fencers secure sponsorships to support their development. Consistent physical training and individual lessons with experienced coaches are essential for competing at the highest level. Coaches need viable incentives to fully commit to the development of a fencer.
Equipment
Blades and cables break, shoes and electric jackets wear out, and new purchases are made every season. The electrical equipment for Sabre undergoes a thorough check before each competition to ensure proper conductivity. For this reason, fencers often use separate gear for training and competing.
